2008 / Roca /

Initial Challenge

In 2008, Roca partnered with renowned fashion designer Giorgio Armani to develop an exclusive line of bathroom concepts. The challenge was to deeply understand Armani’s distinctive design language and translate it effectively into the bathroom context, ensuring a seamless fusion of both brands’ aesthetics and values.

The Method

To achieve this, a comprehensive research approach was undertaken:

  • Design Language Analysis: Conducted an in-depth study of Armani’s style, focusing on key elements such as minimalism, elegance, and attention to detail.

  • Brand Ethos Exploration: Examined Armani’s brand philosophy and how it manifests across various product lines, from fashion to interiors.

  • Application Framework Development: Created guidelines on how to adapt Armani’s design principles to bathroom products, considering functionality and user experience.

The Solution

The culmination of this research was a detailed report that served as a foundational tool for designers:

  • Design Reference Material: Provided insights into Armani’s aesthetic principles, offering a clear direction for product development.

  • Concept Integration Strategies: Outlined methods to incorporate Armani’s design language into bathroom concepts without compromising functionality.

  • Visual Aids: Included mood boards and visual references to encapsulate the essence of Armani’s style.

My Involvement

As the Service & Concept Design Researcher, my responsibilities encompassed:

  • Research Execution: Led the analysis of Armani’s design language, ensuring a thorough understanding of the brand’s aesthetic and philosophy.

  • Report Compilation: Synthesized research findings into a comprehensive document to guide the design team.

  • Collaboration Facilitation: Worked closely with both Roca’s and Armani’s design teams to ensure alignment and effective knowledge transfer.
