Initial Challenge

Roca aimed to revitalize its Khroma bathroom series by introducing a fresh and contemporary colour palette. The challenge was to develop a concept that not only aligned with current and emerging colour trends but also seamlessly integrated with Roca’s existing product portfolio and anticipated future furniture lines.

The Method

We followed a multi-layered process combining trend analysis, creative experimentation, and strategic alignment:

  • Trend Research: Reviewed cross-industry colour trend reports and emerging palette forecasts

  • Market Comparison: Analyzed competitors and adjacent sectors (interiors, fashion, automotive) for relevant parallels

  • Portfolio Audit: Evaluated Roca’s current colour use to ensure coherence and avoid overlap

  • Future Alignment: Coordinated with the product development team to match future furniture lines and finishes

  • Hands-on Colour Creation: Mixed pigments and materials in the studio and tested finishes using real material swatches under different lighting conditions

The Solution

The final result was a bold, yet harmonious new colour palette for the Khroma line that:

  • Reflected contemporary emotional aesthetics, with warmer, softer tones

  • Maintained consistency with Roca’s design language and material finishes

  • Provided flexibility for integration with future product series

  • Differentiated the brand in the saturated premium bathroom market

My Involvement

As the Colour Specialist, I was responsible for both the strategic and tactile sides of the concept development:

  • Conducted extensive trend and competitor research to define a relevant and distinctive direction

  • Designed and curated the new colour concept, ensuring brand coherence and forward-thinking appeal

  • Physically created new colour samples by mixing pigments and materials in the studio

  • Used real-life swatches and environmental testing (e.g., lightbox evaluations) to validate colour behavior in situ

  • Worked closely with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure feasibility from both a manufacturing and market standpoint
